White Sands Theodolite Ellipsoid Observation

April 24, 1949Arrey / White Sands Proving Ground area, New Mexico, United States

Charles B. Moore and four Navy personnel, working a Skyhook balloon operation, reported a separate fast-moving ellipsoid observed with the naked eye and through a 25-power theodolite. A later pibal balloon check was used to argue against a local balloon moving with the observed angular speed.
