One summer night in 1966; exact date not givenEllsworth AFB Minuteman missile field, South Dakota, South Dakota, United States
Albert Spodnik told Hastings that while his maintenance team was restoring Juliet-03 after a power failure, radio traffic reported nearby Juliet-05 had also gone off alert, lost commercial power, and failed to start its generator. A Security Alert Team then reported a round metallic object on tripod-like landing gear inside the fence. Spodnik personally reported seeing the distant site glow and later a brilliant light ascend; no official documentation is presented in the book.
Claims are displayed with the source wording, locator, relationship and verification state. Competing claims remain separate rather than being averaged into a single answer.
“Albert Spodnik told Hastings that Juliet-05 abruptly went off alert after losing commercial power and failing to start its diesel generator while a Security Alert Team was dispatched to a triggered security alarm. Over the radio, the team then reported a round metallic object resting on tripod landing gear inside the security fence.”
“Spodnik said he personally saw an intense glow around the distant Juliet-05 site and later a brilliant white light ascend vertically. He heard by radio that three triangularly spaced indentations were found and that commercial power returned without action by the personnel present.”
“Hastings explicitly states that official documentation verifying Spodnik’s Ellsworth account was unavailable at the time of writing, even though Hastings personally considered him credible.”
