Spring 1980, perhaps May; exact date not recoveredEllsworth AFB B-52 Alert Pad, South Dakota, United States
Mills separately recalled a dark triangular-looking object moving near Ellsworth’s B-52 Alert Pad while personnel were awaiting an SR-71 departure. He later corrected his earlier belief that the event was over the Weapons Storage Area. He also recalled later Flash-priority instructions not to discuss the incident, but no surviving message is presented.
Claims are displayed with the source wording, locator, relationship and verification state. Competing claims remain separate rather than being averaged into a single answer.
“Mills later reviewed aerial photographs and corrected an earlier assumption: the daytime object he remembered was near the B-52 Alert Pad/flight line, not above the nuclear Weapons Storage Area.”

SUPPORTS
CLAIM-530044reported
“Mills said the dark triangular-looking object was visible to the naked eye but seemed to disappear when viewed through binoculars; he himself considered optical or heat-distortion effects as possible explanations for that aspect.”
“Mills recalled a Flash-priority message later directing personnel not to discuss the incident publicly and another message the next day effectively denying it. He could only paraphrase the wording and no surviving message is supplied in the book.”
